Production Engineering Manager with a focus on maturing the work of the development department and getting it ready for production

Mayekawa Nordic A/S has asked us again to find the right person for a key role in the company. They are a client we know well and enjoy working with, and they are looking for a Production Engineering Manager who thrives where development, production and people meet.

Mayekawa Nordic A/S is based in Middelfart and works as the Nordic development centre for the Japanese Mayekawa group. The company develops industrial cooling systems and heat pumps, and it is best known for the mCHILLER series, which runs on ammonia as a natural refrigerant and reaches high energy efficiency and sustainability that way.

A brand-new Industrialization department is going to be built in Middelfart, and you are the one who will build it. Together with the Development Director you work out what the department needs to be able to do, and you build the systems for it. You take the long meetings and the negotiations with development and production about how things can be done better, you set the direction for how work is matured and handed over from development to production, and you take part in doing the work yourself. It is a role with responsibility and leadership, where you also have your hands in technical work.

The department will bridge development and production. And with a production unit in Serbia that you will have quite a lot to do with, you should expect up to 50 travel days a year.

There will be two of you in the department: you as lead and a Production Engineering Supporter. Together you make up the foundation of Mayekawa’s Industrialization department.

Areas of responsability
Working with the management team at Mayekawa Nordic, you build the department from scratch and shape how it is going to work.

The responsibility sits with you from day one. You report to the Danish Development Director, and your remit covers:

• Building the workflows and processes of the department.
• Making sure the department matures the products thoroughly, so they can move safely from development to production.
• Contact with the three parties involved: development in Denmark, the parent company in Japan and production in Serbia.
• Sourcing agreements together with strategic purchasing.

Tasks
You have the daily responsibility for getting things done, and you take part in the technical work yourself. Some of it sits at a strategic level:

• CAD automation across product families and variants.
• Product variant engineering and assessing what a change affects.
• Design-for-assembly improvements.
• Building quality assurance into the development processes.
• Developing systems for generating customer documentation packages.
• Bringing new product features into existing product lines.

Your background
You are trained as a production engineer, marine engineer (Maskinmester), production technologist or something close to it. What matters most is that you have stood between development and production before and know where the friction shows up in practice. Management experience is welcome. If you do not have it but want to step into a leadership role, that works just as well.

The department has to cover a range of technical areas. Since you are the first person in it, we expect you to bring a solid technical foundation with you and to cover several of those areas from the start. That means Vault and Inventor, including automation and workflows, mechanical design and assembly processes, an understanding of production technology, and experience with ERP and PDM systems. Knowledge of welding, sheet metal work, piping and fittings is an advantage.

You take responsibility, you go looking for both people and knowledge, and you do not wait for someone to ask you. You take the lead when that is what is needed, and you know when to leave room for others.

You have the drive to build systems, improve them and keep them running. You finish what you start rather than throwing yourself at the next thing. And you can find your way in an organisation that is not structured yet. Because that is exactly what you are walking into: creating the structure that is not there yet.

It helps if you are interested in working internationally, or have done it before, with contacts and relations outside Denmark. Strong English is important for the same reason.
